Born and raised in Kaunas, Virginija grew up spending all of her childhood amongst books, living near the library. 1972 was the year, when Virginija got introduced to leather bookbinding in Stepas Zukas Art School, then following with the studies Leather art & bookbinding, Applied Art department, in Tallinn, Estonia. Learned art history, leather art design, bookbinding background, painting, drawing, composition in 1976 – 1982. Having a great tutor Silvi Kalda has influenced Virginija’s to choose leather bookbinding as the main focus of her studies. While being a member of Artists Association, member of Vilnius bookbinders guild Virginija has taken part in art fairs in Holland, Sweden, Japan and Ireland. Love for books has also lead to studying a Master’s Degree in Art Critic, Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas, Lithuania. Research protection of culture heritage and Art history. Emphasis in old XV – XVIII age Lithuanian bookbinding in European context. The latter studies have encouraged Virginija’s interest in old book professional restoring. Currently Virginija is working in Kaunas County Library in Rare Publishing Sector as a document bookbinding restorer.
